DIY Pop Tab Crafts

Does anyone else remember “fuck tabs,” or is it just me? You know, the little tabs on soda cans that high-school kids use as sexual currency? Well, if you were/are of the more slatternly persuasion, or if you just want something to show for finishing off all those cases of Natty Light, then do I ever have some handy crafts for you, ya big ol’ harpy!
First up, the ultimate broke-ass soda tab craft: a picture hanger. Just screw your pop tab into your frame and use it to hang.
Next, consider some lovely pop tab jewelry. Either by clipping them open and stringing them together (which you’ll need a few key rings for), or by weaving together using elastic chord or ribbons. You can also string them all together on a necklace, or make earrings by adding fishhook style earring posts.
If the weaving was working out well for you, then you can step up to a belt. If you like the sewing parts, you can embellish a bag by sewing tabs onto it in an overlapping pattern. And, if jump hoops are more your thing, check out this skirt:
Seriously. That’s not all – you can make a pop tab bikini too. This chick made a whole freakin’ prom dress out of ‘em. If pop tab apparel is too much for you, you can use jump hoops to make a tiny box or a lamp. They can be strung together aninto strands for your walls or backyard. My fellow crocheters can find a printable tutorial for incorporating pop tops into crochet work here. Renaissance types can find your basic bend and fold chain mail here.
Now you really have something to show for that time you screwed the track team!
