Jonesin’ for Jones
It’s hard to believe that this bar with a banging outside patio is located in the Tenderloin. The name of the place is Jones, and it is tucked away off of Jones St. in a corridor-like setting. There is an bar that is covered and the rest of the patio is open. You can wine, dine and even dance out here. Just don’t look over the fence or you will be in for a nice view of some crack heads.
Basically, Jones is pretty fancy and I normally couldn’t afford to hang out there. The cocktails are usually expensive and the food is incredible, yet pricey. Happy Hour is the best time to come to Jones. Drink specials run from 5 -7 pm Monday through Friday. I was there last Friday around 6 pm and it was starting to get packed. My first mistake was to order a $9 glass of wine, without knowing about the Happy Hour specials. I later ordered another round of three drinks all for $13! Much better. A $5 glass of a chosen wine, a $5 sangria, a $3 specific beer and as well as a $5 signature cocktail are all on the Happy Hour menu each day. You can also get some great snacks like duck tacos or lettuce wraps for $5 each.
I would classify the vibe as industrial-lounge. The patio is barren with clean metal lines, and the tables and bar have a lounge feel. They play chill music and the crowd is a bit yuppie. I’d recommend coming here for cheap drinks and eats before hitting up another dive bar in the TL. And if the weather permits, it is awesome to sit outside at night, especially with the heat lamps.
