Get Some Space at reBar in DUMBO

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

reBar is nestled on Front St. in DUMBO, and it may seem like a trek to ge there if you  don’t live or work in the area, but after my friend decided to have her birthday celebration there, I’ll definitely be returning.

You enter the building and climb the stairs to find a beautifully lit, wood and cast iron restaurant with a sizable bar, which means it’s easier to saddle up to get your drink. I ordered my normal gin & tonic, and was surprised to hear that it in a place this large and well designed, it would only set me back $5. They also have an interesting and varied beer list, most costing $5 or $6.

There was a DJ in the back spinning a variety of danceable tunes – over the course of the night I heard two of my favorites, “Heads Will Roll” from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and, of course, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” – and he was more than open to requests. The space is perfect for busting some moves, and taking the obligatory 5-wide, 2-deep birthday gathering photos. Another random, but completely delightful plus of the bar is that the hallway that leads to the bathroom is lined with interesting artwork, offering a moment of quiet contemplation as a break from the revelry.

During the day, reBar offers lunch specials that’ll only set you back about $8: sandwiches that come with fries, soup or salad and unlimited soft drinks. The coffee is also tasty, and they’re laptop friendly, readily equipped with WiFi. So, if you want to escape the occasionally playground-like streets of Williamsburg, or the high-heel parade of the LES, then try stopping by reBar in DUMBO and get some good views of Manhattan while you’re at it.
