The 7th Annual Mid-Winter Bar Worker’s Ball is on Monday!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you work in the service industry, this time of year is sort of a blessing and a curse. The holidays, grueling hours, double-shifts and belligerent revelers are long behind you now, but all that cash you made is beginning to thin out as well. The clientele have convinced themselves that they need to cut back and do their boozing and grubbing at home. You know better though. The weather gets a little nice and we’ll be back at the races.

So, before the salmon start swimming upstream towards that sweet, sweet good stuff in the triple-x bottle, hang up your apron and throw back a few yourself at this year’s San Francisco Mid-Winter Bar Workers Ball!

Yep, it’s year seven for this clambake and this time around we have the always-cool Café Du Nord as our very generous host venue. The equally magnanimous gentlefolk at 7×7 Magazine, The San Francisco Bay Guardian, and our very own irrepressible Broke-Ass Stu, himself are also co-sponsoring the fun, which means lots of glug-glug and grub-grub for all of you, my esteemed and ever-toiling comrades in the trenches!

As always, if you are in the industry, your entrance is free and other choice offerings will be laden upon you inside. In addition, your ears will be stirred by an unparalleled line-up of talent that includes DJ Bus Station John of Tubesteak, DJ Brown Amy and DJ Carnita of Hard French, and DJ Soulspin coming in from Temple.

And on the off-chance the memories of this fete are a little hazy, never fear- SnapFiesta is donating their shutters to capture you in all your glory. You’ll have never looked better, my friend!

Stephen Torres - Threadbare-Fact Finder (Editor, San Francisco)

Stephen's early years were spent in a boxcar overlooking downtown Los Angeles. From there he moved around the state with his family before settling under the warm blanket of smog that covers suburban Southern California. Moving around led to his inability to stay in one place for very long, but San Francisco has been reeling him back in with its siren song since 1999.
By trade he pours booze, but likes to think he can write and does so occasionally for the SF Bay Guardian, Bold Italic and 7x7. He also likes to enjoy time spent in old eateries, bars and businesses that, by most standards, would have been condemned a long time ago.
