After a couple years of rumors and hearsay it appears the Elbo Room is officially closing in November. I just logged on to Facebook and saw this post.
All I gotta say is…damn. I think most of us have had at least one wonderful night there, I’ve had many. From readings for Muni Diaries Live, to Richie Cunning shows, to awkward first dates, I’ve spent many nights between those hallowed walls. What happened to you, SF? You used to be cool
This is sad, aspects which make the Mission special are being changed into businesses whose sole purpose is to make money. I understand that everyone wants to be wealthy, but not when it is being done at the expense of the community and the business owners are not contributing back to society in any way.
I was there a couple of times before. Too many hipsters, who gives a shit. The raza been gone long time ago and things just ain’t the same in the Mission, with or without the Elbow Room.
What’s up with the space that used to be Paradise Lounge at 11th and Folsom? That *was* a cool place in the 90s when they had live music downstairs and small live acts upstairs. Artists like Cake, Heavy Into Jeff, Third Eye Blind, Engine 88, NoFX, Carlos, and Oranger played there. Are they asking too much?
