24-year-old Rita Ekwere is better known under her stage name of Ray BLK. She’s a British singer and songwriter who was born in Nigeria, and grew up in Catford in London. She won the BBC’s Sound Of 2017, and was the first unsigned artist to do so. On October 28, 2016, she released her debut mini-album, Durt. If you’re turning in to the Netflix original show, Chewing Gum, then this is where you might have discovered Ray Blk’s song, Chill Out; “a sexy, mellow exhortation to an overzealous suitor to slow his roll.” The Chill Out video is a haunting portrait that features the Gully Queens that live on the fringes of Jamaican society.
