Celebrate 40 Years of Rent Control in San Francisco!
From our friends at the San Francisco Tenant’s Union:
Most broke-ass San Franciscans know that the San Francisco Tenants Union helps thousands of folks every year with volunteers counseling tenants six days a week. What you might not know is that the Tenants Union also fights for stronger protections at City Hall, and at the ballot box.
The San Francisco Tenants Union formed in the 1970s as a group of volunteers, and then was the forefront of the struggle for one of the strongest rent control laws in the country. The initial law was passed 40 years ago and was supposed to sunset in one year, and only covered a fraction of the units it does today. The Tenants Union fought to amend this law for the better over 100 times in the last forty years. They have successfully defended rent control from attacks by the real estate industry right here in the city, and statewide.
Almost all of the Tenants Union’s funding comes from individual donations from our members and the community support of broke-ass folks like you! Please come throw down to celebrate rent control, and help them keep their doors open. The celebration is happening at Gray Area Art + Technology, June 11th from 6pm-9pm.
With your generosity, the Tenants Union can continue to:
* Produce the definitive tenants rights handbook and counsel 9,000 tenants a year
* Draft and lobby for pro-tenant legislation, ballot measures and land use policy
* Hold our electeds accountable to tenants and other vulnerable populations.
Tickets are $45 but no one is turned away for lack of funds. Almost all of our funding comes from individual donations from our members, and the rest is from the community support of folks like you! Please join us in celebrating the historic passage of rent control at this year’s annual fundraiser event.

And if you can’t make it, donate right here.
