Southwest Pilot Caught on Live Mic Ranting About “Bay Area F—ing Weirdos”

Ahhhhh Yes! This is what the internet was made for.

Apparently a pilot for Southwest was flying over the Bay Area when he was recorded over the Mineta San Jose International Airport’s air traffic control scanner, going off on an absolutely incredible rant. The website One Mile at a Time got ahold of this recording from March 13, 2021 and it is truly a gem. Here’s what One Mile at a Time says,

In this audio clip you can hear a pilot ranting about San Jose, as he seemingly has a stuck mic that everyone on the frequency can hear. It’s hard to make sense of what exactly the pilot’s point is (especially since we only hear one side of the conversation, given the hot mic), but here’s what I’m understanding:

    • “Fuck this place, goddamn liberal fucks”
    • “Eight guns out here somewhere as it is”
    • “Fucking weirdos, probably driving around in fucking Hyundais, fucking roads and shit that go slow as fuck
    • “You don’t have balls unless you’re fucking rolling coal man, goddamnit”

My favorite part is his obsession with Hyundais. Like, who has beef with Hyundais? You can listen to the recording right here.

Yesterday Freda Moon at SFGate confirmed that the pilot was in fact from Southwest Airlines. It was originally thought so by Will Lawton, the private pilot based out of SJC who initially reported the rant. Subsequently a spokesperson for Southwest did not identify the pilot, but confirmed to SFGate that he was one of theirs and that they were “fully “addressing the situation internally.”

You can read the rest of the SFGate story right here.

I love this kind of shit!
