Activist to Project Ukrainian Art onto Palace of Fine Arts
Projection artist Alan Marling along with nonprofit Justice Murals have teamed up to project Ukrainian art onto the side of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco this evening (February 22nd) in the wake of Russia’s threat to invade sovereign Ukrainian territory.
Justice Murals contacted Ukrainian art center Arsenal about displaying Ukrainian artwork here in the states. Earlier this week they got art from Ukraine projected on a building in Oakland, tonight it will appear in San Francisco.
Ukraine Art Projected on Oakland Wall this week:
Once a Soviet military factory in Ukraine, Mystetskyi Arsenal transformed into a museum. And now its artwork is being projecting across the world in solidarity with peace.
You may be familiar with projection artist Marling’s work, he’s the artist responsible for many social justice-inspired projections on Bay Area walls, like the “IMPEACH” Trump campaign downtown for example:
More recently local nonprofit Justice Murals and Marling worked together with ArtLords to recreate murals in light from Afghanistan, which were destroyed by the Taliban. The art was projected on Grace Cathedral in collaboration with the staff.
Amidst rising tensions in Ukraine, Justice Murals contacted the Arsenal and arranged the projections on short notice. They will shine at the Palace of Fine Arts tonight!
