When it was first announced that Elon Musk’s plan to buy Twitter was finalized, I was indifferent. My apathy wasn’t because I didn’t view Elon Musk as a problem, he’s a billionaire, by definition he’s a problem. I didn’t care because billionaires own everything important. They own the media. They own the platforms that this very article is going to be promoted on. They own fuckin’ everything. We know they’re evil, but we don’t do anything about it.

As someone who got popular making jokes online, I welcomed the notion of less censorship. I’m not anti-censorship because I want to spam the ‘N Word,’ but because I’ve been subjected to numerous shadowbans for jokes that were relatively benign. Back in 2017, I made a status expressing my taste for low quality marijuana and Facebook’s absurd algorithm gave my personal account a strike… in 2022.

When Elon Musk tweeted “comedy is now legal on Twitter,” I can’t lie, I was kind of relieved. But, typical of billionaires, he disappointed me.

The community guidelines on Facebook and Instagram are stupid, arbitrary and selectively enforced. Before Kanye West threatened to go “DEATH CON 3” on Jews, he was cyberbullying Pete Davidson and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian for a month and his account wasn’t flagged. I say “I can’t handle strong weed” or something similar in a Facebook status and Zuckerberg bends me over to buttzuck me.

It’s bullshit and I hate it.

When Elon Musk tweeted “comedy is now legal on Twitter,” I can’t lie, I was kind of relieved. But, typical of billionaires, he disappointed me.

There was a stupid part of me that thought maybe Musk taking over would be a good thing. I was wrong.

When Musk stated his intention to move Twitter to Texas, I wasn’t against it.

I’ve wanted tech workers to leave the Bay Area in the hopes that it would lead to a rental market correction, ultimately lowering rent for locals since the beginning of the tech boom.

There were also reports of Musk considering converting Twitter HQ into a homeless shelter which was something I could wholeheartedly get behind.

Turns out that it was all bullshit.

Musk’s free speech rhetoric, unsurprisingly, also turned out to be utter bullshit.

Not long after taking over Twitter, Musk announced that Twitter’s blue checkmark verification badge would soon cost $8 a month to maintain. Apparently Musk’s version of free speech is a monthly subscription plan. He’s also not pro comedy. Musk has permanently banned several high profile celebrities who have made fun of him, such as Kathy Griffin.

To make matters worse, he’s using his platform, which is literally the entirety of Twitter, to make a blanket endorsement for the Republican Party in the midterms. If the Republican get congress, we’re fucked. By the way, I fucking loathe most Democrats. But remember this: Republicans are worse, have always been worse and will always be worse.

I thought Elon Musk would be more of the same, turns out, he’s worse. I was expecting a Mark Zuckerberg type figure who would let me be silly on the internet, but that’s not what’s happening.

Billionaires suck, but to my surprise, Elon Musk sucks more. Which is actually quite an accomplishment because the bar is in hell.
