The Last Custom Furniture Store on SF’s Furniture Row

Inside Zozi’s Loft

“When Zozi’s Loft opened in 2011 there were approximately 14 Home Furnishing Stores located along 9th Street, which was dubbed ‘9th Street Furniture Row,'” Richard Nava tells me as I’m perusing sofas in his shop at 249 9th St.

According to Nava, these days there are only three furniture spots left on the Row, and Zozi’s Loft is the only place to order custom made work, not “Internet Returns” or super high end priced pieces.

“Wow, these are really great prices,” my wife Kayla tells me as we’re looking around the showroom. And she should know; she’s an interior designer, whereas the only couch I’ve ever purchased was off Craigslist. “$795 for an 80 inch sofa is fantastic, especially given that it’s custom made. It’s perfect for anyone ready to graduate from stuff like Ikea.”

“Most other websites offer a small handful of manufacturers and try to push those products with the highest margins,” Nava explains. “We have all our items priced low so we can meet any budget.”

Plus, one of the other things that makes Zozi’s Loft’s pricing even more impressive is that all their goods are manufactured in Los Angeles and San Jose. They’re California made baby!

There’s obviously more to Zozi’s Loft than just the $795 starter sofa. According to Nava, the shop offers the largest selection of sofas, sectionals, and related accessories that you will find either on the internet or within any brick-and-mortar store. As Kayla and I were in the market for a new sofa and not one that had been stained with bongwater by Chris on Craigslist, we were pleasantly surprised by all the customization options. Nava walked us through the oodles of styles, fabrics, dimensions, colors, and firmness choices with the passion and knowledge of someone who lives and breathes home furnishings.

Which makes sense considering Nava has been in San Francisco’s home furnishing industry for over 30 years. When I asked him how he initially got into the industry, it was a story of serendipity. “I went into a Furniture Store looking for a sofa,” He explained, “and got along so well with the owner she hired me on the spot to sell furniture.” And thus a furniture maven was born. Then 13 years ago Nava had an opportunity to partner with a friend who was opening a store. They chose the name Zozi’s Loft because it was an uncommon name that would stick with people.

And stick with people it certainly has, considering it’s the last custom furniture store on SF’s Furniture Row. So if you’re looking re-envision your home, update your bedroom, or just simply find a more comfortable place to rest your tush while binge watching Only Murders in the Building, you absolutely must stop in and visit Zozi’s Loft. They are good people who make wonderful, well priced products, and they’re local! Zozi’s Loft is exactly who you should be getting your furniture from.
