‘Your work on our walls’, The Crowdsourced Art Show in SF

Updated: Jun 12, 2023 10:17
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Arts nonprofit Youth Art Exchange wants to ‘open their walls to everyone living/working/loving in San Francisco.’  So if you’re an artist (or just a creative person who doesn’t, like, even consider themselves an artist), they want your work on their walls!  Events like this help to nurture and grow arts communities, AND it’s a painless opportunity to show your art in a gallery.

All ages/all backgrounds are welcome to submit or just peruse.  Deadline for art submission is Friday, 3/22, and the opening celebration on Saturday, April 6 from 4-7pm @ 5137 Mission St. SF (FB event page here)

Youth Art Exchange announces (415) Public Gallery, an art show that places the public as both exhibitors and audience members. Exhibiting (hopefully!) 415 pieces, the curation of the art show will be crowdsourced from those living/working/loving in San Francisco. No, we really mean EVERYONE, whether they consider themselves an artist or not, we want everybody’s creativity in our gallery. All ages/backgrounds welcome.

This art show will draw San Francisco together by placing pieces together from unexpected and delightful participants. Building the art show will build a creative community in the southeastern part of San Francisco in the Excelsior at [x]space arts hub by connecting neighbors and beyond as they show and view work.

By extending an open invitation to all – those who may or may not consider themselves artists- (415) Public Gallery aims to break down barriers to accessing the arts and questioning what is it to exhibit in a gallery space. Blurring lines between audience and exhibitor, (415) Public Gallery will extend further than “the traditional gallery”, as an exhibition by and for the public.

Work will be on display at [x]space from April 1-20, 2019. Join us for the opening celebration Saturday, April 6th from 4-7pm and a happy hour (415) party on Monday, April 15, from 7-9pm. [x]space arts hub, a project of Youth Art Exchange, is located at 5137 Mission Street in San Francisco.

Youth Art Exchange sparks a shared creative practice between professional artists and public high school students, furthering youth as thinkers, leaders, and artists in San Francisco. We foster a creative community from which public art and civic interruptions emerge in the context of San Francisco’s vibrancies and disparities.

[x]space, a project of Youth Art Exchange, is an interactive arts hub and gallery space launched in 2018. Transformed from a meat market that was closed for nearly a decade, [x]space is focused on creative exchange between youth, artists, and the Excelsior community. [x] is a variable, representing ever changing programming and exhibits within its walls. [x]space also houses ArtSpan studio artists, Green Art Workshop, and Youth Art Exchange programming.
