Authorities search for armed woman at Yountville veterans home
Several law enforcement agencies are responding to a report of a woman with a shotgun at a veterans home in Yountville Tuesday morning.
According to a California Highway Patrol statement, they received a call about the threat at Veterans Home of California on Yount Street and immediately notified police and the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. Police are currently performing an extensive search of the facility.
There have been no reports of shots fired, but the incident is under active investigation.
The site was the scene of a murder-suicide in March 2018. Then, Albert Wong, a U.S. Army veteran struggling with PTSD, staged an armed standoff at Pathway Home, a center within the larger facility that helps veterans reintegrate into society.
After a failed attempt by a sheriff’s deputy to shoot Wong through a door, the suspect killed three female staff members he was holding hostage and himself.
The news out of Yountville came as a press briefing was being held in Boulder, Colorado related to the King Soopers grocery store shooting that claimed the lives of 10 people, including one police officer. The names of the victims and the suspect were revealed Tuesday morning, with the shooter identified as 21-year-old Ahmad Ali Aliwi Alissa of Arvada, Colorado.
Unfortunately, the Yountville and Boulder incidents follow another mass shooting at the hands of a 21-year-old who opened fire at three Asian massage parlors exactly one week ago Tuesday. Eight people, including six Asian women, were killed in that shooting spree.
