I’m a huge fan of Bender’s Bar and Grill. It’s one of the last great divey rock n roll bars that’s still left in San Francisco. I’ve rhapsodized about them before, but to be succinct, I love that the drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the bartenders are the perfect mix of sweet and surly. Also, the walls are covered in signs from many of my favorite businesses that have closed.

I’ve got some awesome news! We received a grant from the Civic Joy Fund to put out a literary magazine celebrating SF and acting to counter the stupid “Doom Loop” narrative. It’s a gift to the people of San Francisco. And after months of working on this project it’s now available

Twenty years from now, when your kids are old enough to know better but young enough to not give a fuck, they’ll be searching for places like Bender’s. Places where the religion is loud rock and roll, the sacrament is stiff drinks, and the scripture is graffiti tagged on a bathroom stall.
