DIY: Silverware Wall Hooks
Hint: This is not Virgina.
One of the best things about living in San Francisco is the incredible architecture – we’re widely known for our Victorian and Edwardian abode’s, painted in painfully garish colors or immortalized against a skyline (Holler at my Painted Ladies!). We love our neat, aging frames, our molding and fireplaces, and other niceties.
But one of the pain-in-the-ass things about living in older SF apartments is they often suffer from an utter lack of storage. Our house was built in 1910, and for all its unbelievable awesomeness, we still don’t have any surface space in the kitchen and the closets were obviously built for women who literally owned only two dresses.
However, there’s no need to commit the sin of Ikea – create more space by making hooks out of silverware (inside tip: Goodwill sells silverware. You can pick up a handful for a few bucks).
The rest requires the use of some tools, so grab a power drill with a titanium or cobalt drill bit, a hammer, some small nails and a hair dryer. You can see where this is going already, right? Use the drill bit to bore a small hole in the base of the flatware, then use the hair dryer to heat the metal and make it malleable. Bend that sucker up and hammer it into a wall and you’re done. (Might be obvious to state but these hooks are for lighter items – take your heavy shit to therapy or somethin’).
