It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that in order to have clear skin, you have to have clean skin. Clean skin doesn’t necessarily mean using a million different expensive products either. When it comes to skin care, a little bit goes a long way. Less is more. Less is more effective. Less is easier on the checkbook.
Breakouts on the skin are caused by a buildup of dead skin cells, dirt, debris, bacteria that block your pores. The best way to keep your skin free of breakouts and clogged pores is to wash your face twice a day. This means washing your face once in the morning when you first wake up and once at night before you go to bed. Always start and end your day with a clean face.
Each time you wash your face, make sure you’re getting rid of all of the dirt and debris that has accumulated on your skin thanks to environmental pollution, skin care products, sun protection, makeup, sweat and even excess oil produced within the skin.
For all of us broke-asses with oily or combination skin types and who don’t feel clean unless the cleanser has a little foaming action, I recommend trying one of my all-time favorite drugstore facial cleansers, Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash, $6.49. It’s soap-free, oil-free, hypoallergenic and it won’t clog your pores. For broke-asses who are more on the sensitive side or have dry skin, you’ll really like the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, $5.49. This is a non-foaming, creamy cleanser that won’t irritate the skin and moisturizes as it cleanses.
If you really want to get fancy and bump up your clean skin routine, try a double cleanse. Start by washing your face with the gentle, creamy, non-foaming cleanser to remove the first layer of dirt and debris from the skin. Then follow it up with the foaming cleanser for a deeper, second cleanse. A double cleanse will give your face the best of both cleansing worlds. The non-foaming cleanser moisturizes the skin while gently removing the top layer of dirt and debris. The foaming cleanser then comes in as a tough backup to provide an even deeper cleanse by effectively getting rid of anything the first cleanser might have missed. Your clean face will thank you with clear skin.
