Not for the Feint of Heart Performance Art

Updated: Aug 16, 2009 07:50
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I am awed by many things in New York '“ the women in spike heels lugging their lives on their shoulders who still manage to look captivating, the indefatigability of the squirrels in Washington Square Park come fall, and the strangely comforting bellow of the subway evangelical preachers.  But, one thing tops it all '“ the persistence and inventiveness of our performance artists.  Here are a few upcoming events that promise to delight and surprise, if you’re up for the adventure!

The Return of Rococo Party: A Baroque Bash

Saturday, August 15

The extravagance of 1770 rococo Paris meets the eclecticism of 2009 underground New York nightlife. Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
