FREE Rush Hour Concert at the CJM

Contemporary Jewish Museum's amazing architecture

Ever since I wrote about, and subsequently went to see, the Maurice Sendak exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum, I’ve fallen in like with everything about that place.  I like the architecture, I like that it has cheap tickets ($5) every Thursday after 5pm, I like that it’s across the street from work, and I like that it hosts rad exhibits and events that even the goyem (non-Jews) can enjoy (maybe not so much the Holocaust one I wrote about for the Gate'”shameless plug'”but perhaps this next one).  On Thursday the CJM will host this month’s installation of the SF Chamber Orchestra’s Rush Hour Concerts, in which they preview their Home Season repertoire in a convenient downtown location for FREE! This one will feature Israeli mandolin player Avi Avital. Why can’t my name be like his: Chloe Chloetal (or, more appropriately, Chloebergmansteinowitz).

So to sum it up: I like proximity, thrift, mandolins, and Jewishness.  I know not everyone works across the street and loves these same things'”maybe you hate art and music and Jews (shame!)'”but then make up your own damn reasons for going, I’m just listing mine.  Here’s a possible one for gross meat-eaters and those in need of some Jewish-pun beer: 'œNosh Specials at Café on the Square (Mar 18 only): The museum’s Café on the Square has designed a very special Mandolin Magic-themed menu just for us, featuring $3 He-Brew beer, $4 house wine, and $5 small plates! Featured entree: Mandolin Tuna Salad! Come early or stay late for a drink and a bite! (Cafe open until 7:30pm).'

Thursday’s a good day to go hear some music because unlike a bunch of other doofuses, a proper Jew shouldn’t be hung over from Saint Patty’s Day on Wednesday (and if you do end up a Jewish St. Patrick’s Day doofus, then some soothing mandolin music from the homeland just might ease your pain'”just think of it like the wailing wall but with sounds!).
