Marcus Samuelsson Will Teach You All About Swedish Food

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Marcus Samuelsson is the much-celebrated New York chef who has been at the helm of restaurants like Aquavit, Merkato 55 and the upcoming Harlem spot Red Rooster. He also won Top Chef Masters recently, hilariously, while rocking a pair of Burberry pants with his chef’s jacket for nearly the entire show. He cooks for Barack Obama occasionally. I saw him walking on Lexington Ave. a couple of weeks ago – he’s a fly dude.

And he is reading tonight, for FREE, at the Barnes and Noble on the Upper West Side. Samuelsson will probably read a bit from his new cookbook, The New American Table, and then talk about things like what it’s like to be Swedish-by-way-of-Ethiopia, planning State dinners and what he plans to serve at Red Rooster when it’s open. No snacks sadly.

Polina Yamshchikov - Flirt Poor

Polina is Siberian by way of Alabama, and therefore cannot pronounce "fire" or "iron" correctly but despite this can still woo men with her cooking skills and enormous Russian cheeks. She can usually be spotted on the streets of Brooklyn either yelling into a cell phone in one of five languages or swilling gin at an inappropriate hour of the morning.
