FREE Movies Every Friday Night at Park Chalet

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

The beach, awesome movies and beer. That's it.

COOL THING ALERT!  Park Chalet, a place I love but rarely venture to, is calling me back with an entertainment offer I can’t refuse:  FREE movies on their five-foot screen every Friday night at 9pm through April 2011.  Every month till then has a theme; for example, November is ’80s classics.  The one film left this month is “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (which, incidentally, I’ve never seen.  I know, I know).  December’s theme is ’80s action, and seriously, how can you go wrong with “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Top Gun”?  I actually don’t know, because, again, never seen.  I apparently missed all ’80s cinema while I was relishing The Babysitters Club series.

The topper is that happy hour drinks and appetizers will be available (even though the regular happy hour is from 3pm – 6pm).  No outside drinks are allowed in, so flasking it is the way to go if that’s how you do.

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
