NYC’s Best Snow Sledding + Fireside Jazz TONIGHT!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Mayor Bloomberg says we should stay inside. Which would be a great idea if we had his billions to spend on all the post-holiday online sales. But we don’t. All we’ve got is each other – and the Census Bureau can verify that people tend to multiply nine months after an apocalyptic blizzard.

What I’m getting at here is that if you don’t want another mouth to feed, you should put on your boots, fashion a sled out of a garbage lid, and hit the skids.

There are plenty of places to soak up some snow in Manhattan. Pilgrim Hill in Central Park, for instance, which can be accessed from the the 72nd St. and 5th Ave. entrance. Very nearby you’ll also find Cedar Hill, just south of the Met, between 76th and 79th streets. On the West Side, try Riverside park, which spans from 72nd to 125th streets and includes lots of great hills. Even further uptown – because people live there too, ya know – Inwood Park is a hidden, wintry gem. For other areas near you and within the boroughs, check this listing.

After you’re sufficiently frozen, warm up with a FREE fireside jazz performance by Paul Brady. This weekly show gets a little added ambiance tonight as you peer down on the white-washed town from atop the Empire Hotel.

Sure beats gettin’ your neighbor knocked up.
