FREE Winter Weekdays at Brooklyn Botanic Gardens
Right now, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is everything you need from an outdoor adventure. The snow covering its ground hasn’t been covered in asphalt dust or pissed on by your neighbor’s dog. It’s home to willow trees, cedars, cherry trees, pine trees, etc caked with fluffy white flakes that have only been disrupted by little birds and squirrels. It’s one of the few places in the city where you’ll feel like you’re walking around in an Ansel Adam’s photo.
When you get cold, you can warm up in the greenhouses. The tropical plant rooms is full of orchids, coffee beans, cocoa plants and tall trees…it looks like there should be sloths and toucans hanging out in there. Then there’s a desert collection, with sand and several species of cacti and succulents. I could continue listing the different species of plants at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens for hours and get equally excited about each one. But the most exciting thing about the gardens right now is the FREE admission on weekdays all winter. Got a real job? No worries, the gardens still has FREE admission before noon on Saturdays.
