Catch Michael Showalter and Neko Case This Thursday for FREE

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Depending on your generation, Michael Showalter can mean different things. For those of us old enough to remember anti-establishment MTV, you may remember him bringing youthful, Monty-Python-style frenetic sketch comedy in The State. Then there are those who will best remember him as the sincere Coop from Wet Hot American Summer. Regrettably few of us remember him from Stella. But if you don’t remember him at all? Get to know him alongside Neko Case at Barnes and Noble this Thursday.

Showalter is one of a rare breed of comedian who can walk the tightrope between TV shows and movies while also keeping an absurdist sensibility to separate him from, say, Dane Cook. At this reading he’s coming to rep his book, Mr. Funny Pants, which is a mix of memoir and wordplay that’s sure to be a good read for those into humorist essays that aren’t above cheap shots at Canada. Speaking of Canada, Neko Case will also be around to show off her new material. More mellow than she was in her New Pornographer days, Case possesses that uncommon trait amongst singer/songwriters to seem both earnest and hilarious. It shall be an evening of comedy and pathos, so please enjoy.
