Eat Your Soul Out for $10 at Gussie’s
How much greasy, sticky food can you stuff in your face for $10?
What’s sweet, savory and crunchy all over?
That’s right, chicken and waffles with maple syrup. For those of you dying to take it to the next level above dipping your bacon in your syrup, try a crispy-fried chicken breast on top of a golden waffle smothered in hot, sticky syrup. Can I get a “mmm-mmm?”
At Gussie’s Chicken and Waffles, they don’t mess around. Don’t miss the $10 All-You-Can-Eat-Buffet, every weekday from 11am-3pm. $2 Tuesdays celebrate cheap eats and drinks for the same price as the bus!
This salty, sweet combo has been a tradition since the 1930s. It is said to have started in Harlem, for late night partygoers on their way home from the jazz clubs. It seems that these folk couldn’t make up their minds whether they wanted breakfast or dinner – so they just started throwing chicken on top of waffles, and this love affair was born.
Chef Michele Wilson keeps this tradition alive at Gussie’s, with a huge breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. The self-trained chef now blesses us with her Grandma Gussies’s secret soul food recipes she learned as a child.
Forget about your diet and splurge on the likes of Country Fried Okra, Gussie’s Down Home Country Gumbo and Cheddar Cheese Grit Cakes. There are also about six different types of waffles to choose from. Be sure to load up on superb sides to go with your fried feast, like Mac and Cheese, beans and rice and Southern Corn. And don’t worry, you don’t have to get all gussied up to eat at Gussie’s.
