Shinsai: Theaters for Japan Benefit in Brooklyn
For those of you who may not remember, it has been nearly a year since that devastating earthquake hit Japan, causing a nuclear accident. Shortly after the disaster, actor James Yaegashi called on friends in the New York theater community to “do something to help our fellow artists on the other side of the world.”
One year later and many organizations have come together to deliver the nationwide event known as Shinsai: Theaters for Japan. Shinsai [SHEEN-sigh], meaning great quake in Japanese, will serve as a way to help the Tohoku theater community in Japan. On Sunday, March 11th, Hybrid Theater Works will be hosting this FREE event at Brooklyn’s Magic Futurebox, Doors will open at 6:30pm and audiences will be encouraged to make a donation to the Japan Playwright Association. You can also RSVP for tickets here, with a suggested donation of $10.
The evening will consist of short plays by American and Japanese playwrights, FREE food and a cash bar. The lineup will feature:
