You Can Get a Free Eighth of Weed For Getting Vaccinated In SF
69% (nice) of San Francisco residents are fully vaccinated, and 76% have their first shot, so most of the city has received the COVID-19 vaccine. But that means 26% of the city’s population is still unvaccinated, and one workforce development nonprofit wants to get that percentage of San Franciscans higher — they’re offering a free eighth of cannabis to anyone who gets the vaccine.
You may have heard of the "beer and a (vaccine) shot" promotion, well Code Tenderloin is offering a 1/8th of cannabis as an incentive for a vaccine. Plus gift cards for performance about the vaccine. Pulling out all the stops here. pic.twitter.com/PW4dt8NzRY

As you can see in the tweet above from District 6 supervisor Matt Haney, Code Tenderloin is holding a Vaccine Rap Day this Friday, July 30, at 4 p.m. on the 900 block of Market Street (at Fifth Street, basically the Carl’s Jr. intersection). The deal only applies to unvaccinated people, but both the vaccine shot, and the eight-ounce of cannabis, are completely free.
“Code Tenderloin has been walking the streets daily and has vaccinated 1000s of people in the past few months. They’re doing the work, effectively,” Sup. Haney said in a subsequent tweet. “If this works, more people are protected, that’s a win. If it doesn’t, then fine. We need to try everything we can.”
People seem to be overlooking the "make a vaccine rap" get $200 part of this announcement.
If Gov Newsom can give out big lottery checks, I think the vaccine rap check makes sense too.
If it works, people are protected, and we open and stay open. That's the goal.

There is also a $200 Visa gift card “Create and perform a song about getting the vaccine” component, though the deadline for submitting a song has passed.
Thinking about vaccination… I had the privilege of tagging along with @codetenderloin on a COVID vaccine outreach shift. They got 23 shots in arms that day, and you can hear why it matters so much to bring doses directly to where people are at. https://t.co/phiXIcjsR9

Code Tenderloin is a workforce development nonprofit that has been doing free vaccine outreach on the streets, but their core purpose is to “remove Barriers that keep people from securing long term employment, such as: finances, legal, soft skills, childcare, transportation, and education.” Yes, they do teach people to code, but they also teach sales and general job readiness. They additionally help people enroll in the Public Defender’s Clean Slate Program “that reduces and expunges criminal records.”
If you’re still unvaccinated, or if you have any friends who are, that free eighth should be highly motivating factor, and that free smoke will help make the whole city of San Francisco safer.
