There’s a Petition to Rename Street Outside Trump Tower After Obama
As of this morning over a quarter of a million people have signed the petition, and that number should continue to rise. What started out as a joke to rename Trump Tower’s address to 725 President Barack H. Obama Avenue, now has some juice behind it, and considering how NYC’s Mayor de Blasio hates Trump (as do most New Yorkers) this might actually happen.
MoveOn.org Petition: Rename Fifth Avenue in front of Trump Tower: “President Barack H. Obama Avenue”
The Petition’s creator, New Yorker Elizabeth Rowin, told Newsweek. “I saw a comedian joke about how it would make Trump so mad if it was named after former President Obama and thought why not?” Rowin said she wrote to the New York City Council and got responses from several members assuring they would pursue the case.
Other locations named in honor of famous people in NYC include Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace Way, Dianna Ross Playground and Wu-Tang Clan District. Traditionally, the honoree in question should be deceased for at least two years prior to the petition, but that’s an arbitrary guideline that can be easily ignored. Los Angeles has already renamed a stretch of the 134 Freeway near Downtown L.A. after President Obama for example.
This move is of course, petty, and inconsequential, but it is hilarious, so feel free to Sign the Petition Here.
