Bay Area Voter Turnout for the latest 2020 presidential election was above 80% in all 9 Counties. To put that in perspective, the projected voter turnout for all of the USA is around 68%.
San Francisco County saw historic numbers with an 86.23% turnout, a number that has not been matched in SF since 1956, when President Eisenhower won reelection. The pandemic also made this election historic. With vote-by-mail being extremely popular. In Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, more than 75% of voters cast their ballots by mail.
This turnout rate is in stark contrast to 2016, when Hilary Clinton lost to Donald Trump despite winning the popular vote. In 2016, the country managed a paltry 55% turnout.
The 2020 figures have also shattered previous national turnout highs, including in 2008 when Barack Obama defeated John McCain, and in 1960 when John F. Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon.
