Bake Muffins & Feed Homeless Folks For National Muffin Day!

My top 5 things about the UK: 5. Pimms Cups 4. Cricket (it’s an awesome game, I swear! You get to sit in the grass and drink Pimms for 3 days straight) 3. Fish and Chips 2. The fact that every time I’ve ever been there, I’ve been on vacation 1. Elevenses “Elevenses,” for those not in the know, is a special meal you eat at 11 AM, basically a meal in between brunch and lunch. It’s also a form of the plural of 11, and these days I have 11 on my mind, because The 11th Annual National Muffin Day is happening on Sunday, February 23rd! What better elevenses snack than a delicious, home-baked muffin!

What is National Muffin Day? I’m so happy you asked! It’s a day where we combine deliciousness with philanthropy while fostering empathy for people less fortunate than ourselves.
Participating in National Muffin Day is as easy as 1-2-3:
- Bake muffins on February 23rd! The yummier, the better. Need a recipe to start? You can’t go wrong with King Arthur, so here is their classic blueberry muffin recipe.
- Give muffins! Donate your muffins to people experiencing homelessness in your city, or to local shelters.
- #givemuffins! Take a photo of your group and your muffins and post them to social media with the hashtags #givemuffins.
But wait, let’s sweeten the deal (pun very, very much intended). For each person who participates, I traditionally donate to local charities. This year, in light of recent tragic national disasters, I will instead be donating $5 to each of California Community Fund (benefiting people who lost their homes in the LA fires) and Beloved Asheville (for people who lost their homes in Hurricane Helene in NC).
That means that if you bake with your significant other, your third-grader (they grow up so fast), and your goofy Uncle Harold who makes the best morning glory muffins this side of the Mississippi, then $40 will be donated to charities…except it might really be $80 because I can get donation matching from my employer.
But don’t take my word for it, ask our friendly media friends: SF Standard, SF Chronicle, Forbes, CNN, ABC, CBS’ Inside Edition, J Weekly, and the Marin IJ. And most importantly, Broke-Ass Rootin-Tootin’ Stuart, who has been with us since our first year!
It’s easy, fun, feels good, and helps those in need. I can’t wait to see your muffins!
