An Arts Market to Debut in United Nations Plaza

If you thought United Nations Plaza already had every conceivable business transaction possible, you were dearly mistaken my friend.  Sure it’s got a farmer’s market, a bazaar, an illicit drug trade, and the sidewalk sale of stolen goods in front of Carl’s Jr….but no, that’s not enough.  While San Francisco might’ve gotten ripped off when that other city got the actual United Nations (and we were just stuck with a plaza) we at least get a new Arts Market instead.

Here’s what the press release has to say:

Independent Arts & Media and the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development announce a new, open-air marketplace for local arts and culture in downtown San Francisco.

The San Francisco Arts Market debuts on Thursday, August 19, in UN Plaza, and will run every Thursday thereafter from noon to 8:00 p.m. throughout this summer and autumn. An additional run during the December holiday season is also in the works.

Located at 1182 Market Street between Grove and Eighth streets, the San Francisco Arts Market at UN Plaza will feature diverse arts, crafts and culture, including painting, photography, mixed media, literature, music, fashion, jewelry, toys, children’s goods, creative home and garden wares, and much more.

GET INVOLVED

Local artists, artisans, fashionistas, musicians, publishers, crafts- and culture-makers, food-cart operators and more are all welcome to apply for a tent space at the San Francisco Arts Market!

All exhibitors must be selling work that has been handmade by local Bay Area artists. The goal of the Arts Market is to help local Bay Area arts and culture entrepreneurs as well as revitalize the arts community and cultural economy around San Francisco’s Civic Center region.

Sounds like fun right?  I’m glad at least somebody’s trying to “revitalize the arts community and cultural economy around San Francisco’s Civic Center region” because that place is fucked up!
