San Francisco Theater Festival Sunday August 7th

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

This year the San Francisco theater festival has nestled down right on the shores of the bay in Fort Mason. The festival will be presenting 135 shows in just over six hours time spread throughout 15 venues scattered in the nooks and crannies of the Fort Mason Center. According to my calculations that means there will be roughly 22.5 shows going on per hour which is probably more than are available on TV at any given moment (calculations are non-scientific).

This festival gives you the opportunity to see a ton of San Francisco’s finest theater groups all in one venue and all for the low low price of FREE. On the list for this year we have BATS Improv, local open mic impresario Danny Dechi, the Secret Improv Society and a host of other groups that you can see without having to shell out even one single dime.

Think of this festival as sort of a tasting menu, or comedy Tapas. You can come out to Fort Mason and try a wide variety of shows with almost no risk. Then when you figure out what you really like you can seek out those groups and go and support them throughout the year.

Growing up in Marin, Hugh joined the throngs of suburbanites that dream of being rock stars and movie gods only to end up in a well appointed cubicle. Now Hugh lives in San Francisco and casually ignores his environmental studies degree, choosing to write comedy and eat burritos instead.
