Why 2023 Has Been A Crazy Year For The Bay Area

Why A Bunch Of Rich Techies Got Mad At Me On SF Twitter

If you read BAS, you may have seen my article, “It’s Time To Ban Self-Driving Cars In San Francisco.” For whatever reason, this piece pissed a lot of rich people off.  What rich people am I referring to? The rich people at GrowSF and their followers on Twitter.  If you

Why You Need to Shut Up And Watch One Piece

The organizational landscape in the Bay Area can get a person down. There are enormous issues to overcome: The state is mandating our city to build 82,000 new units, our city government stands behind ineffective officials rather than local transit, and small-minded techies flame local writers as they opine about

Artistry & Resilience: The Journey of SF Muralist Amandalynn

I think by now you know that my love for public art spans across all genres. Whether it’s strolling along Oakland’s Troll Trail filled with random “trolls” made made from scrap materials, SF’s mosaic stairs or massive collaborative street art murals. Through my years of exploring The Bay Area’s public

There are streets in San Francisco that look like walls, enough traffic to turn a pacifist into a psychopath and cyclists who think they’re invincible. It’s a

Why The “Doom Loop” Isn’t Real.

Hey, I’m not sure if you know this, but Downtown San Francisco is struggling. I know, this is news that is entirely new. This isn’t a horse that has been beaten to death by every struggling media agency on the planet in a desperate attempt to get a few clicks

This One’s Just for The Cissies

Circle up cisgender folks. Oh, happy Pride month. Isn’t it fun? I can hear the unasked questions bouncing between your tonsils. Questions about my genitalia, or a hungry curiosity surrounding my they/them pronouns or the stubble under my admittedly sloppy makeup. Even in the age of TikTok and extensive YouTube tutorials, I can’t quite figure makeup out yet. We’re doing what we can with what we have, which is a shaky lip line and some blunt, 80s blush.

San Francisco’s Newest Destination Bakery Is In Hayes Valley

When a line forms in San Francisco — in the fickle weather we always seem to have — you know it’s got to be for something tasty. I braved the wind for the new-ish Loquat in Hayes Valley, a Jewish bakery from the Four Barrel and Mill team, that brings a former pastry chef from Tartine to a suite of babka, cookies, and cakes.
