Style Analysis: I’m Gay For Natasha Khan

Her music is weird and her style is weirder. It’s official: I have a total gay crush on Natasha Khan from Bat for Lashes. Not a half-assed ‘girl crush” where I wish she was my BFF or something, but a fully sexual, gay crush. I would get with Natasha Khan no question, anytime.

I like that she doesn’t need to tramp it up to look hot, and I like that she’s not just coasting on the “vaguely ethnic art-school student” look of sloppy hipsterdom. As someone who sometimes struggles to have fun with style for fear of getting carried away and turning out like this , I applaud and celebrate Natasha’s ability to look like the human realization of Dov Charney’s most burning desire without looking like she gives hand-jobs for coke in the back of The Alligator Lounge. She also does awesome shit with feathers.

Seriously, I wish was wearing this right now.

This is the perfect outfit for when you are gently grasping the head of a supine bear.

And this?

She is actually making a ’round-the-head-handband look awesome and wearing a jumpsuit, ideal for those times when your legs are cold but your back is hot that happens so often that if I had a nickel for every time I’ve experienced it, I’d be making more money than the boss.

At first I found her look kind of bougie flower child and silly, like some NYU girl who saw the Public Theatre’s Production of Hair! in Central Park and started painting her face and getting overly excited about her “Cultural Realities of the American Indian” course, but then I saw her video and I think she’s the real deal.

Am I crazy? Or is this luv 4 real?

Looks like that’s precisely what she’s coasting on. I long for the day when this fad of 20-somethings-dressing-like-children-playing-dress-up is over.
