Frank Lloyd Wright Building (aka VC Morris Gift Shop)

Frank Lloyd Wright is probably the most famous and inventive American architect.  Real architecture folks might not agree, but I don’t really care about their opinions.  His work is known for blending into its surroundings to make the structure look like it occurred naturally.  Although he designed many buildings and houses in California (Palo Alto supposedly has the most), to my knowledge the only one in San Francisco currently houses the store Xanadu.  Apparently FLW was doing this one at the same time he was designing the Guggenheim in NY, so it has a remarkably similar interior to it’s NYC cousin '“ seemingly devoid of right angles and full of curving ramps.  I’d pay SO much money to see Tony Hawk go to town in here.

Originally built as the V.C. Morris Gift Shop, Xanadu sells all sorts of really amazing secular and religious artifacts from all over the world, some of which date back many hundreds of years.  I found this shop by accident one day and didn’t know that it was a Frank Lloyd Wright building until recently.  The building’s interior is an incredible roundish design that can no way be described properly.  If you are in the Union Square area, it is something you must see.
