Snack Dragon, Your Taco-Wielding Angel

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

During a recent almost week-long disappearance of the Endless Summer taco truck on Bedford, Brooklynites were outraged at being forced into unthinkable alternatives like “cooking at home” and “eating not-burritos.” It was a dark time, but one that may strike again. It’s up to you to choose to be a victim or not, to saddle up and get your ass over the bridge to Snack Dragon or sit at home with your cilantro-withdrawal.

Until recently, I remembered Snack Dragon mostly as that place in Alphabet City I stopped at when wasted to get tacos that would usually end up all over my shirt.  (Window service doesn’t mix well with whiskey.) They must have felt sorry for slurry sloppers like me, because they recently opened up a sit-down spot in the LES for more sucessful taco enjoyment.

Everything on the menu is only $3-$5 and Dragon’s selection tops Endless without doubt; taco fillings include carne asada, grilled sole, slow-roasted pork and even quinoa for veggies with other snacks like nachos and tortilla soup. All come in a blue tortilla with spicy black beans, Monterey jack cheese, homemade salsa and sour cream, and–of course!–cilantro (phew).
