5 Promising Spring Trends
Well! Spring is only about 72 days or something like that away, and for those of us mired in the freezing misery of the East Coast, looking forward to springtime and the clothes and accessories that come with it-are one of the few things that make wintertime bearable at all.
Plenty of the trends of ’09 will be sticking around into the springtime but there are a few new looks to anticipate that I think we’ll be seeing a lot of, come the first crocus blooms. Take a look.
Purple Lip Gloss
It seems like the kind of thing that could only work on women of color or on Gwen Stefani but, like red, there is a purple hue and intensity for every skin tone. The one that I love the most being pale and pink skin-toned is the Lipstick Queen Draw On Lip Gloss in “Mystery.“ It’s a really nice, light sheer gloss that goes on smooth and doesn’t make me look like I’m in a Portishead video.
Low Heels
Finally! You don’t have to worry about broken femurs or anything else. Everyone, myself included, loves how high heels make you feel and look, but if you live in a city where you do a lot of walking its just not an option. I’ve always felt that there was something cheesy about wearing sneakers to work and then changing into heels, so unless you have a car and driver or incredibly strong ankles vertiginous heels are a headache better saved for special occasions. Low heels, flats, oxfords and even -ugh-kitten heels are back for spring so revel in them while the trend lasts.
Lucite
I have a feeling I’m gonna stay away from this one because of a bad experience I had with Lucite and clear plastic in general, this one time in 7th grade. I was a super horrible trendy fashion victim and bought a clear plastic raincoat from some terrible store on like 8th Street, which I thought was fabulous and paired it with a mini Lucite handbag that looked like a small trunk. Remember those ones? The kids in my school were not so fashion forward I’m afraid and teased me about it until I abandoned it altogether. So none of that for me. Unless I can find a cool bracelet….
Thick Braids
For those of you who can do it now’s the time. Make a low braid, sling it over your shoulder and call it a day. Bonus points if its a little messy. Work some product into damp hair, kinda muss it up around the crown and braid it up. Then you’re done and when you finally unbraid your hair at night you’ll have really pretty waves. This is an especially nice style in hot weather.
Aqua Everything
Aqua or Turquoise, has been declared by Pantone to be the Color of 2010. See you in hell, mimosa. If you can’t or don’t want to wear it in a dress or a top form, choose a little accessory, a ring, or nail polish. It can wake up a basic ensemble. Just avoid pairing it with yellow.
