Real Cocktails and Beer on the Cheap at KoKo Cocktails

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

It's not actually a Korean bar though

In a city full of dive bars, KoKo Cocktails is one of those tiny hole in the wall joints that you tend to overlook unless either a) your friend who lives in the neighborhood loves it and tells you to meet there for drinks or b) you’re out in a foreign neighborhood you’ve convinced yourself you needed to pop in one more bar on your stumble home.

Luckily the staff at KoKo seems to love just about everybody, so even if you’re just visiting their edge-of-the-Tenderloin digs you’ll get the same treatment as someone who’s worn a butt-print into a bar stool. And with Happy Hour specials like $2 PBR and Modelos, $3 well drinks and drafts, and a nightly special cocktail for 5 bucks you’ll probably wonder what you did to deserve such a cheap bar tab. (Last night’s cocktail special, for example, was a Hanky Panky – Gin, sweet vermouth and Fernet served up with a twist – surprisingly like a Manhattan!) On top of that they run a list of always-fresh-squeezed, always-$7 cocktails which will really spoil the thrill of spending $10 on fancy drink for you.

Andrew Dalton - Aggressive Panhandler

Andrew is an East Coast transplant from Virginia hamming it up in San Francisco without any intention of leaving. Having worked every typical job from Bike Shop Employee to Bartender to Ad Agency Hotshot, to Dotcom Layoff he now busts his ass covering the "weird things to do" beat for gracious local audiences at SFAppeal.com and rallies the Western Addy/Lower Haight/Panhandle neighborhoods into action at AggressivePanhandler.com. His work was published in a real, paper magazine one time. One day he might even figure out how to make money from it.
