Guilt-Free Fun for the LES Girls Club tonight at Marfa

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Tonight, join the Lower East Side Girls Club to celebrate the fact that the neighborhood isn’t the haven of crack dens and rampant crime it used to be. Tex-Mex spot Marfa will offer up an open bar from 6-8 PM (cough, did you read that!? OPEN. BAR.) with appetizers and sweets from Sweet Things Bake Shop to get you in the door and donate to the worthy Club.

Created in 1996 to address the historic lack of services available to girls and young women on the Lower East Side, all proceeds will help the Girls Club buy paints and supplies for their upcoming Graffiti Project happening next Thursday, July 29th from 2-8PM — a mural which will be nice to go look at while you spend most of your Saturday waiting for a brunch spot at Clinton Street Bakery. There will also be a raffle featuring original works by Girls Club leaders Nicolina Johnson and TOOFLY, and a one-year membership to the New Museum.

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
