Stuff Your Face With Cheap Buns From Lung Fung Bakery
My second apartment in the city was on 18th Avenue at Geary in an area I like to call “Central Richmond” (Google Maps tells me this is a real term in existence, but I’ve never heard anybody actually speak this in conversation).
Anyway, there were a ton of cheap and delicious restaurants right around the corner from this spot, but somehow I always ended up at Lung Fung Bakery. It’s a little intimidating at first (unless you normally order from places where you have to walk past a sea of innocuous-yet-disconcerting card-playing, chain-smoking octogenarians), but don’t be scurred — the lady at the counter is like the super-sweet Asian grandma I never had.
Everything on the menu at Lung Fung is under $1, though I’m particularly partial to the $.90 BBQ pork buns. The pork inside is way less fatty than a lot I’ve had, which is a thumbs-up. Also of note are the egg tarts, ham and egg buns, and red bean pineapple buns. But really, order the BBQ pork bun. After only two of these soft, amazing bundles of awesome, you’ll be stuffed, only out two bucks, and wishing you lived around the corner from this place again.Lung Fung Bakery 1823 Clement St. (btwn 18th & 19th Ave.) [Central Richmond]
