If you can only buy yourself one treat this month/year, which, if you’re as under-employed as I am, is a sad, sad, reality– make it something practical AND whimsical. So, what was the one semi-frivolous thing I got myself this year (and maybe for the rest of my life)? A HeyAllday tote that can fold up into a little wallet-sized pocket when you’re done using it. What IS HeyAllday, you ask?

Well, it’s a store on Etsy, the brainchild of Brooklyn-based designer Liana Allday, who, like many women living in NYC, was sick of carrying bags and bags-within-bags everywhere. The great part about her bags is that they’re really, really  pretty and handmade, so you’re also sort of indulging your impractical side and won’t be subjected to carrying around the gross bag equivalent of Mom Jeans that your mom got you from J.Jill, or whatever. But, also, guys, these totes are UNDER $20! And if you act fast, you can snag one of her headband-turban things that I’ve been coveting since November.

In addition to the Etsy store, you can sometimes find Liana and her HeyAllday Handmade wares in the back-market that happens sometimes at  the In God We Trust in Greenpoint. I’m not sure what the regular scheduling of that thing is, but it’s pretty awesome when you can catch it.  Also, being quite the crafty lady, she has a blog called Knit Yourself Pretty, which has great stuff on DIY/baking/clothing/crafts/everything that is for sure worth checking out before she unveils her latest project she’s working on– a craft/DIY book.

You will soon also be able to can now check out another writeup with way more info I did of HeyAllday for the brand new site for Dirty Magazine— a print and now online culture magazine for which I have semi-recently started contributing.
