Play Me a Song, Pop-Up Piano Man
Sing for Hope, an organization dedicated to making sure art is available to everyone in New York City, is bringing the beats to the streets once again this year with Pop-Up Pianos. For two weeks, 88 public pianos throughout all boroughs will give New Yorkers a chance to see if they remember Chopsticks. (Please be warned that tries are unofficially capped at three for the sanity of innocent by-listeners.)
The pianos are painted by a bevy of professional artists and community volunteers, and will spring to life for a number of Pop-Up Concerts presented by some of NYC’s finest. When the public play wraps, the pianos will be tuned and tweaked and then donated to the local schools, hospitals, and community organizations that Sing for Hope serves year-round.
