The ‘Muppets Haunted Mansion’ Trailer Has Dropped
Disney theme Park ride the Haunted Mansion has terrified generations of lil youngsters at Disneyland Park and the Magic Kingdom, and now it is being fully Muppetized. The latest Muppers feature Muppets Haunted Mansion will arrive Friday, October 8 on the Disney+ streaming platform, and the trailer for this most sensational, inspirational, spine-chill-ational. Muppetational feature just dropped, and can be seen below.
Muppets Haunted Mansion will not be a full feature film. It’s a 48-minute holiday TV special, much along the lines of last year’s Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. But it is a legitimate canonical Muppets franchise entry, and will feature celebrity cameos from Will Arnett, Taraji P. Henson, Danny Trejo, and John Stamos.
And here’s a twist — Ed Asner’s final role is an appearance in Muppets Haunted Mansion. The Mary Tyler Moore and Lou Grant actor passed away in late August, and production for Muppets Haunted Mansion took place entirely in August. Asner does have several other works in post-production, which may or may not be released, but Muppets Haunted Mansion was his last actual film shoot.
But back to the Muppets! Muppets Haunted Mansion puts Gonzo and Pepe the Prawn in the starring roles, and adds a plot which does not exist in either the amusement park ride, the 1964 Haunted Mansion spooky sound effects album, or the forgettable and shitty 2003 Haunted Mansion film with Eddie Murphy. (But it is likely to contain inside jokes and references to these!) There are three original musical numbers, plus one Muppets cover of a classic rock song on the soundtrack.
And it will at least contain this magnificent Halloween proposition of “Kermit going as Miss Piggy” and “Miss Piggy going as Kermit,” so Muppets Haunted Mansion can’t be all that bad. It’s an original Disney+ production, so there will not be any dirty Muppet scenes, nor content warnings that upset conservatives.
Muppets Haunted Mansion will be streaming on Disney+ starting Friday, October 8.
