The Bay Area Is About To Be Hella Hot

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

One of the benefits of living in the Bay Area compared to other parts of California is that we have a fairly temperate climate. Well, the inland parts of the Bay get hot as fuck, but if you’re on the shoreline everything should be fine. At least most of the time.

There’s a rule you learn growing up in the Bay Area: if San Francisco is over 70 degrees, the rest of the region is basically on fire.

Tuesday was forecast to be another day in the oven. Brentwood was set to roast at 106, Livermore to bake at 103, Pleasanton to grill at 100, Concord and Morgan Hill to sizzle at 99, and San Jose to toast at 95. Even places closer to the water were expected to feel the burn. San Mateo and Oakland were forecast to cook at 83, Berkeley and Richmond to simmer at 77, Vallejo is set to hit 86 and San Francisco to warm up at 74.

Wednesday would bring only a slight reprieve, with temperatures dropping by a mere 3-4 degrees in each place, according to the weather service. An excessive heat watch remained in effect until 11 p.m. for the East Bay and Eastern Santa Clara hills, as well as the San Benito Mountains and interior Monterey County. A heat advisory was also in place for parts of the North Bay, South Bay, and Santa Cruz Mountains.

At least we’re not in Sacramento or Stockton. Sactown is going to be 106 and Stockton is even worse at 107.

In order to combat this, several Bay Area communities will be opening cooling centers.

The good news is that this will pass. By Friday, the bay breeze and overcast that we love so much will make a triumphant return.

The valley is still gonna be hot as fuck… but we don’t live there. We live here.

Thank God.
