Kamala Harris Brings In $12 Million During San Francisco Fundraiser
You can call San Francisco a lot of things, but you certainly can’t call the City by the Bay broke. It isn’t, for better or worse, its cup runneth over, and that’s precisely why politicians run to it. Even Donald Trump, for all the vitriolic bile he has for the Bay, can’t seem to resist a Pac Heights fundraiser.
This time was Kamala’s turn. Her and America’s favorite funnel cake dad, Tim Walz, were in Nob Hill getting some of that delicious San Francisco green. How much green? A lot. Tickets for the event were priced as high as 500k. That’s roughly 40% of the median home value in the city to listen to someone give a speech. She left the event with a staggering $12 million.
Nancy Pelosi and Gavin Newsom both attended the event at the Fairmont Hotel, adding to the event’s Democratic Party star power.
“She makes us all so proud. She brings us so much joy. She gives us so much hope,” Nancy Pelosi said during the fundraising event according to The Guardian.
This fundraising round concludes a swing state tour after her campaign announced Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, as her running mate.
Many consider Tim Walz to be evidence of Kamala’s commitment to progressive policies in the face of considerable scrutiny relating to her record as a former San Francisco District Attorney. Tim Walz’s appointment as VP came as a bit of a shock, as many were anticipating Kamala Harris picking Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro as her running mate.
Tim’s record is considerably to the left of most modern Democrats and can be interpreted as indicative of Kamala’s potential policies if she wins the White House in November. Many have suggested a Harris Administration would be a continuation of Biden’s policies. Harris’ collaboration with Tim Walz can be viewed as a challenge to that criticism as well as a subtle nod to the Democratic Party’s more progressive wing.
The switch from Biden to Harris so far has been a strategic success for the Democrats. If Biden had remained in the race, a Trump victory was all but assured, especially after Trump was nearly assassinated at a campaign rally near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A Harris/Walz ticket is significantly harder for Republicans to attack than a Biden/Harris ticket. The attacks on Harris as a “left wing loon” don’t make sense considering her history shows her to be a moderate at best, and Walz’s policies of free lunch and tampons seem more like compassionate common sense than Chinese or Soviet style communism.
However, it’s still a long way from November and it’s anyone’s race. While Harris has reenergized the Democratic Party, Donald Trump and his supporters are fanatical and seem to view Trump more as a religious figure than a politician.
To put it lightly: the future is uncertain. All I know is I need to figure out a way for rich people to give me $12 million dollars. I can read the fuck out of a teleprompter. Put me in the game!
