Rad TV Dads
As I was daydreaming the other day about my undying (and platonic) love for my favorite tall, geeky, sensitive TV Dad, I got to thinking about the awesome/rad Dads that have been a part of my television upbringing. Don’t get me wrong, my real life dad is the best, but I think everyone would agree that there have been some pretty cool father figures projected into our living rooms since the dawn of time. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and remember some of the greatest pops in recent-ish television history. Cue the “I’m learning a life lesson” music!
Danny Tanner – Full House
I can’t start a list about awesome TV Dads without paying homage to the one, the only, Danny Tanner. I have a hardcore obsession with Full House, and can’t honestly say that it didn’t slightly affect my decision to move to San Francisco. Whenever I watch reruns, a piece of my heart awakens, and I can’t help but fully learn the lessons that Mr. Tanner is more than ready to dish out.
Earl Sinclair – Dinosaurs
This Daddy will forever live in my mind, as his scary/adorable dino baby deemed him, “Not the mama, not the mama.” Haha. Man. Gets me every time. I remember REALLY liking this show and relating to the challenges and hysterics of your every day, regular prehistoric dinosaur family. Plus, that plaid. So hip!
Uncle Phil – Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Father to maybe the greatest dancer of all time, Uncle Phil had double duty as father and uncle to the motley crew of Will, Hilary, Carlton, Ashley, and the kid from Little Rascals. He had a bit of a temper, but he always came around in the end like the big teddy bear he was.
Herman Munster – The Munsters
Well, (A) Mr. Munster is a monster, automatically making him pretty freaking badass, but (B) he always seems to be getting into some sort of nutty predicament that is bound to entertain. Frankendaddy is good for more than a laugh, and always ends up taking care of business and showing young Eddie the path to awesomeness by teaching life lessons while battling prejudice.
George Bluth – Arrested Development
Being honorable and law abiding is super overrated, and no one proves that more than George Bluth. Everyone give Michael the credit for holding the family together, but really it’s George’s hijinks and legal tomfoolery that really puts the ‘h’ in hilarity and keeps the Bluths running strong.
