SFMTA Offering Refunds on $6.1 Million in Overcharges
The SFMTA has given notice of approximately $6.1 million in unclaimed funds for overpayment and duplicate payments received for parking and transit citations issued between January 1, 1995 and June 30, 2012. The deadline to fill out a claim is March 3, 2016! After that any unclaimed funds will become the property of the City and County of San Francisco!
You should have gotten a letter in the mail to sign and verify your refund. But if you did not, and you’ve paid more for those tickets than you should have, you can submit a claim form online. You can also contest any ticket you’ve gotten recently (and haven’t yet paid), although there’s no guarantee you’ll win a decision, this process will at the very least delay the payment deadline for weeks. If you think you’re being wrongfully cited, or you need some time to gather the cash, this is an effective and legal way to do that. Protest your citation here.
