Drinking in A Factory Town at the Sea Star Club
Though our much derided neighbour to the south proudly exclaims it from a mountainside for all to see, a schlep through the oxidizing shadows of the Dogpatch reminds us that San Francisco proper was once an industrial city itself.
People go back and forth over the trajectory of the neighbourhood’s gentrification, but if you’re hankering for a taste of its blue collar past, and fading present, than you need not venture farther than the Sea Star Club.
True Dogpatch locals remain ever faithful to this dimly lit oasis of cheap booze. Maybe not the most hopping place, but perfect if you ever feel the need to hide out. Sort of place you imagine secret meetings happen at, like when someone’s going to blow the whistle on some evil empire. P.G. & E. is right around the corner, after all.
