TASTE: Sick of cooking the same old tired dishes over and over? Don’t know what to make between Andrew’s Friday segments of “Upgrade Your Comfort Foods/Downgrade Your Trendy Foods?” Or do you just like to collect old cookbooks? The ones from the 50s are the best, with all those neon aspic jelly concoctions. Here are the rules: you can take home as many books as you bring. If you don’t bring any books, just pay the door fee and you can choose one book.

SMELL: Y’all know how I feel about urban farms. As part of Labor Fest 2010, the fledgling Hayes Valley Farm is offering a FREE tour on Wednesday at 3pm. To explain the physics of scent, my dad used to always tell me, “If you can smell it, it’s in your nose.” So when you’re out there, taking a deep inhale of the summery smell of fresh manure, just remember: that shit’s in your nose. Literally.

Liberty leading the film geeks
SEE: The Disposable Film Festival is having a FREE screening of a collection of disposable films with French themes in honor of Bastille Day with drinks provided by Hotel Rex. I like how they took the famous Liberty Leading the People painting and turned the figures into hipsters. Though I guess a hipster wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a helmet.
