The Sistine Chapel in San Francisco
Not to brag, but I’ve been to the real Sistine Chapel in Vatican city, it is a masterpiece, it is unique to history, and it easily one of humankind’s greatest artistic achievements. Now there’s a traveling exhibit coming to San Francisco and taking place in a ‘mystery location’, tickets go on sale June 22.
The Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition website describes it as “a life-size, up-close, never-before-seen perspective of the genius masterpieces”. The exhibit has already been to Minneapolis, Phoenix, Charlotte, Atlanta & Chicago, and it features 34 reproductions such as “The Creation of Adam” and “The Last Judgement.”
I’m genuinely excited to see this, the legendary frescos are crafted via a special technology — hi-res prints on special fabric — to recreate the look and texture of a fresco, according to Martin Biallas, the founder and CEO of Special Entertainment Events (SEE). Biallas also said, “Every brushstroke is visible, giving added depth and breadth to the scope of the paintings.”
At the Vatican you have to gaze upon the frescos from like 40 feet bellow at times, so it’s not easy to see all the fine details. Art nerds rejoice!
Tickets will be released on Tuesday, June 22nd at 12 noon! And you will have timed entry so you won’t have to wait in line.
