Craig’s Place: Giving Back to San Francisco
Fact #1: Over 42% of homeless children are under the age of five.
Fact #2: Women over 25 earn on average 79.4% of the salary paid to men over 25.
Fact #3: Regardless of the proven benefits, nearly 25% of Americans are skipping breakfast.
These figures are horrifying. I suggest we start with the most pressing issue. It’s time for us to unite as peers in this struggle to better humanity. These people are cold. They are broke. And what’s worse, they’re hungry. No, I’m not talking about the babies or the females. I’m talking about your roommates that are hung over on Sunday mornings vomiting with mascara running down their face. These people are not animals. They’re your brunch friends.
You might be saying to yourself, 'œI know their suffering is a tragedy, but I’m only one person. What can I really do to help?' Well you are not alone in this battle. There is a safe haven for these train wrecks, and it’s called Craig’s Place.
They provide all of the necessary equipment to give people the nourishment they need including omelets, scrambles, sandwiches and more, most things on the menu for under $10. For the babies that can’t quit the junk cold turkey, there are incredible mimosas for $6. A veggie scrambler is $8.50 (roughly 1% of the cost of monthly shelter in San Francisco). Dubbed 'œthe new American comfort breakfast' by T-Pain, Craig’s is the place to go to laugh off telling your deepest secrets like that time you got a boner looking at a Polaroid of your grandma in a bikini. What’s more is the people have an opportunity to gather as a community and realize they are not forgotten by society.
